Theme Parties for All - How I started this tradition!

Updated: Oct 2, 2019

If anyone knows me at all, there is one thing that I love to do... I love to celebrate milestones and holidays. I love to make memories and enjoy and cherish moments with friends and co-workers. Creating priceless memories is an amazing feeling, but I also am not one who is rich. I try to create memories on a budget and as a Graphic Designer and artist, I try to make a lot of it on my own.

As a lover of traditions, a lot of them started for me in the last 10 years. As one of the older children in my family, we all started our own families, or careers, and I am someone who needs people, I need to love on and be with them.

My first theme dinner was 13 years ago, it wasn’t even a thought at the time, that this would be something I would keep doing or was an actual idea. I am a huge fan of the movie,”What About Bob?,” and thought it would be easy and fun for those living at home at that time if we had the dinner where Bob just keeps saying, “Yum, Yummmmmmm, mmmmmmmmmm.” I had that meal and very lightly decorated and it ended up being fun.

I tried this again for another movie, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding,” buying the movie soundtrack and the Greek flag and spending way too much time trying to learn how to make Greek food. It was nothing super fancy, but it was fun. From that point on, they just became something larger and I started to plan them more of when my entire family would be together.

One of the hard faults, is that I have not consistently done the big ones every year or thrown these every year, they end up really being every 2 years or so, but I still throw them. Life throws curve balls and time, money and space always got in the ways, but I still do them. I will never stop making these memories.... It was confirmed years ago, roughly 7 years ago when I did a Harry Potter themed party and my nephew came in to see the food table with house flags above yelling,”This is the coolest thing ever!!!” That just made my day, especially because I threw that party on really no money, just made my own decor or painted it.... You can make amazing memories and not spend a lot.

Here are some of my favorite memories so far...

What About Bob Dinner

Wizard of Oz Dinner 2011

Harry Potter Dinner - 2012

Alice in Wonderland Dinner 2017

In the future, as I start to really plan out what I need to do and get for this coming years party, I will show you my step-by-step.... From picking out a theme movie to the decor and food. Make memories and celebrate life..
