Love/Hate Relationship with Halloween

Throughout my lifetime, I have always had a love/hate relationship with Halloween, anyone else out there feel the same way?
I grew up with a ton of siblings, so we always did our best in our trick-or treating efforts. I mean we covered as much ground as you could and would train for weeks beforehand to have speed on our side. I loved that part of Halloween, loved the candy and the movie Hocus Pocus.
It has always been the horror element of Halloween I couldn't stand. I hate being scared, I truly hate it. I hate scary movies or the creepy feelings you get afterwards when you are in the dark.. I just never enjoyed the scary part of the holiday.
It honestly was not till last year that I actually really liked the day. Last year at my previous position I had decided to finally give an effort to their Halloween Costume Contest. That job took the holiday very seriously, and the previous years I had not cared or put forth any effort.
As I have tried to mature in my life, I realized part of my dislike of the day was my lack of effort. The most I would ever do was buy pizza and make myself some cupcakes.... a lot of my holidays have revolved around food, ha ha
I decided to give it a go, I put together a costume and made plans with my brother and his family and can I tell you, I had the best Halloween, seriously. I actually ended up winning the costume contest, which was a bizarre thing for me and at my brothers had a Halloween themed dinner and went trick-or-treating with the nieces.
Here is some video of it below.
This coming holiday, I can't say I have plans set up already, but I am looking forward to it. A lot of what you get out of a day is what you put into it or seek out. I will and still will never love the horror part of the holiday, but for every other part of it, bring it on.
