Finding Graphic Design

Writer: Alisha ClarkAlisha Clark

Growing up I always had a passion for all things creative, I wanted to be an artist, a designer, and oddly an archeologist/astronaut. Not quite sure how the last one worked, but a child can dream.

Throughout my schooling, I took easily to art and in highschool had art classes, and even attended a state-run art summer school. I always knew that in college I would continue on with that passion.

As I completed my first degree in Fine Arts and had done a study abroad in Italy, I looked forward optimistically to the future. Although I still do art, I found myself taking customer service jobs and during that time in my life was having severe health issues. I knew I needed a change, I knew pushing down the creative side of me would no longer suffice.

In a clear as day thought about needing to change my life and future, within a month I had applied to a school in San Diego and was planning to move from Utah. It was the most guided and spontaneous and amazing decision I have ever made. In going back to school, I found design, I found an avenue that would take my life into amazing directions. It has only enhanced my passions and I truly feel like I found my calling.

Below is a highlight of some of my earliest work from school which has now become a distant memory. I have been lucky to work in both Graphic Design for 10 years, Photography and Video for 15 years, and also incorporated all of those passions and design into a genealogical business I have as well.

I am an advocate that if you have the feeling that you need to change your circumstances and life, do it, you won't regret it down the road.
